Lois and I met while attending Cascade Unitarian fellowship. We were both new to Wenatchee
and began meeting on Tuesday mornings at Starbucks. My “Tuesdays with Lois” quickly became
routine. We shared our stories and laughed about everything. She was always a delight. When I
learned that she was returning to Michigan to close up the family home I volunteered to
accompany her. The many hours on the road gave us even more time to learn about our family
histories. Lois was a fabulous listener and had a great sense of humor. One year we volunteered
to organize the Christmas Eve service at CUUF and had a fabulous time decorating and taking
turns reading the New Testament story from beginning to end. Years passed and one Sunday an
announcement was made at the beginning of the service. A woman spoke solemnly, “I’m sorry
to say that Lois Cole has left us.” There was a gasp from the audience. I quickly stood and said,
“Lois hasn’t left us! She’s moved to California!” Lois will never leave us. She’ll forever be a spirit
in those gently breaking waves off the coast of California and blessing us with the memory of
her sparkling smile. – Daniel Sconce
